The average family uses over 300 gallons of water per day at home. Before we get into how you can start saving water, here are some common ways we use it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Household Chores<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A load in the washer uses about 25 gallons of water<\/li>\n<li>Washing dishes takes about 15 gallons per day<\/li>\n<li>Washing produce and cooking requires about 2 gallons per minute<\/li>\n<li>Watering your car with a hose can take anywhere between 2 and 50 gallons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Personal Hygiene <\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>20-30 gallons of water are used per shower<\/li>\n<li>Shaving takes about 2 gallons per minute<\/li>\n<li>About 1.5 gallons of water are used every time you flush the toilet<\/li>\n<li>Washing your hands and brushing your teeth take about 15 gallons per day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why Conserve Water?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We often overestimate how much water we actually have access to.<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that while Earth may have many bodies of water, only about 1% of it could be used for daily life, personal hygiene, and the household chores that we mentioned above? The rest is often unclean, contaminated, or extremely difficult to reach and use for basic everyday necessities. If taken from the oceans, water is loaded with salt and undergoes a process of desalination that strips the water of its salt content. In order for this to be done effectively, chlorine is used to clean the water. However, chlorine does more harm than good when it comes to your hair, skin, and respiratory health.<\/p>\n<p>With the rise in populations all over the world, and the fact that adequate water is necessary for agriculture, hygiene, and just about everything around us, it\u2019s important to conserve water.
